Life Update (Boring bullshit rantings of a guy who just got home from a concert and hasn’t gone to sleep yet)

Don’t know if I’m going to keep this blog very active in the near future, for now, life just seems to be getting in the way. But not in a bad way. At the start of the year, having had quite a few changes happen in a very short space of time over the Christmas Holidays, I set myself a few goals. Not all of them were life changing and most of them were more self indulgent than progressive steps into the realm of adulthood, but it always helps having goals to strive for.

Tip top of the list was to finally move out of my home, get a proper job and maybe even find myself in a relationship of some form of stability. I’m happy enough to have achieved two of the three so far, currently living in a close to city centre house within a 20 minute Luas ride from the office where I’ve got as steady a job as I could expect to have as a 22 year old recent college graduate (and far better than I thought I’d be doing at this stage in my life). Yes I’m still single and while there are pros and cons to both forms of relationship status, I’m happy enough to remain so for now. Life has thrown me quite the bundle of lemons and I’m still busy squeezing all the lemonade out of them that I  can.

The second half of that list, which I’ve added to as the year has progressed, started with two goals. Firstly, I wanted to watch the Dark Knight Rises in an IMAX theatre, and secondly, I wanted to see 3 particular act playing live, Rammstien, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Foo Fighters. After tonight, all four of these events can be officially crossed off that list and each one of them will be extremely memorable in their own right.

things that have crept their way onto the list over the last few months range from entering proper races to try and get back in shape (the first of which takes place this coming Saturday in the Phoenix Park), to dressing up like bane from TDKR (I had intended to attend the showing in costume but the mask i ordered didn’t arrive on time. however, with the upcoming DICE (Dublin International Comic Expo) event Bane shall eventually rise).

Long and short of it, I’m very grateful for A, having the opportunity to work where I do giving me the financial stability to afford the things I’ve gotten up to over the last 8 months, and B, for having the family and friends who either supported me in the decisions I’ve made such as moving out or come along for the ride as with the Dark Knight Rises trip and the Foo Fighters tonight.

And hey, there’s still another four months left in the year, who knows what’ll happen between now and then.

This is a post about MINECRAFT!!!!!

How to describe Minecraft… Well, as a friend put it, it’s like legos in an old school computer game. you have a variety of different coloured blocks that you can stack on top of each other to build pretty things or you can hack away at them with a pick axe made of diamonds. Whatever you decide to do, you will end up doing it for the rest of your life. To date, Minecraft is probably the most addictive game I have ever played (I even stopped playing Batman Arkham Asylum because of it!!!). With the introduction of “creative mode” in one of the most recent updates to the still-in-bata-masterpiece of a game, the doors have been opened to allow literally limitless creativity (well almost).

But lets not rush into things. What exactly is Minecraft (although shame on you and the rock you’ve been living under if you don’t already know). Still in it’s Beta form, Minecraft is an independently funded computer game, created by Markus “Notch” Persson and his company Mojang, where the player can gather resources by destroying various different types of blocks and from there work their way up to building anything they want limited only by what their minds can imagine and a 64 blocks above sea level height restriction (similarly, you can only mine down so deep before reaching the bedrock which can only be destroyed in creative mode leaving you to spiral down into the abyss of nothingness below the world before a lack of oxygen suffocates you and you die a horrible painful death!). Random bus blog 13: generic personal update on what I’m up to.

Last week, I noticed that my activity on this blog has been next to non existent over the last few months. However, I also noticed at least one person keeps coming here every day for some reason. I’m not sure if it’s just a friend or family member trying to show support for a venture I ended up caving at fairly early on, or if it’s a bot looking for random posts to rip off and reblog under a different name or something, or the vague possibility that there is a genuine fan of my blogs which if that’s the case, I’m humbled. What ever the reason behind those individual daily views is, I thought I might as well give this blogging thing another bash.
It’s not as if I’ve much else to keep me busy with anywho. Still working the same jobs as I was before I finished my degree. Although I do have the added bonus of teaching a workshop in college now on how to use cameras and Photoshop (people’s degrees are dependant on my guidance!!!). Other than that, my life is occupied with rebooting boomstick from DCUfm last year as a podcast and hopefully expanding to other online media with a couple of videos in the works at the moment (will cover in a later blog post). And Minecraft. I reckon my next post will be all about the wonders of Minecraft and how it can consume your life but for now lets just say I’ve likely clocked a good few hundred hours wasting away in front of the computer screen playing that game.
I’ll try post once or twice a week for now and see if I can get back into the flow of regular blogging again. Now however, I need to grab a few z’s before teaching this class. Today’s lesson, Photoshop for beginners (showing them adjustment layers etc). laters.

RIP Troy Davis. What Ever Happened to Innocent Until Proven Guilty

So, today I woke up to the news that Death Row Convict Troy Davis had his appeal for a stay of execution denied and and at 11:08pm last night (4:08am GMT), he died from lethal injection.

Despite the fact that 7 of the 9 non police eyewitnesses changed their testimonies after the original trial, despite the fact that over half a million people had signed a petition for clemency including former US president Jimmy Carter, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the motherfucking POPE, despite the fact that there was no clear evidence in the original trial to begin with except the word of a few eyewitnesses who admitted that they had been threatened by the cops to testify against Troy Davis, despite all these things and many more, The G’damn Supreme Court of Georgia has decided to ignore all these things and murder an innocent man for a crime which there isn’t a shred of evidence linking him to it.  Read the rest of this entry

I’m Back…. well, Almost

So I’m sitting here waiting for this bloody video to render so i can continue to edit it in anticipation of my final year thesis presentation this monday and I thought to myself, why not get back into the habit of blogging.

So just a brief hello again to anyone who bothers to read my random ramblings (that one’s for you John 😛 )and thank you to whoever it was who checked back in at least once a day (or, if that person happens to be persons then thank you all of you).

Also, slightly awesome note in my books, if you google “Dark Knight Rises Pre Production” my blog is the first link 😀 so thanks to google and whoever read that blog to get it up there ( I know that it’s just some random thing but I’m a huge fan of the last two films and cannot wait for this one so to have my name linked in anyway to it is awesome!)

Now, I know I’ve a lot to do once I finish my thesis presentation and subsequent Exhibition (25th -27th of this month in the Helix, DCU ) such as actual blogging, updating the 30 day challenge pages (I finished it on Facebook but have not had the time to update here), and fill you two in on my plans for the summer but for now, I shall just leave you with a hint as to what my next post will be all about (how will you ever guess):

{edit}: sorry, make that the next post after the next one. The next one is dedicated to my Thesis Exhibition coming up this week that you should totally go to cause it’ll be awesome :D!!!

Random bus blog 12: Multi-Award Winning Me! Cause I’m Cool Like That.

So wow ok, it’s been a while now since I won, really should have posted about this sooner. But yeah… I won! Twice in fact. And the funny part is I wasn’t even there to collect em! Maybe I should start from the beginning.

One of the last times I blogged was the night of the Smedia awards where DCUfm did pretty damn good for itself winning 4 awards over the course of the night. It was also the same day of the Society Awards for which I was nominated for best poster. Winning in the Society Awards leads to a night at the BICS which are the all Ireland Society Awards taking place this Thursday. Unfortunately, style soc won for their poster of cobble stones with a photoshop filter over it (swear I’m not bitter at all…).

But forgetting about my totally un bitter loss there ( it was two weeks ago, I’m over it already!), last week was a second chance for me to shine. For weeks I had sat in work in the loans office where the submission box for the DCU MPS Hybrid Awards remained fairly empty. We had already decided that we would all submit for radio presenter of the year (we being Carly, Kev an I with Boomstick etc) and enter for arts/features show (should have gone for entertainment in hindsight). I also decided that since luck had screwed me over at the Soc Awards, maybe my poster might fair better at the Hybrids.

Random bus blog 11: too much to do. Bye bye blog a day :(

Well, I’ve given up. It was fun while it lasted but unfortunately, with work and my final year project and everything, I have been finding it increasingly difficult to make time to come up with good blog posts. So I’ve decided that for the next month an a half, I’ll only blog if I have time and somethin worth while to blog about. No more blah blah blah posts. On a similar note, no more drunk blogging. Blah blah blah is just lazy and stupid. But yeah, if I don’t blog between now an then, see y’all at the end of may. Ttyl.

Blah blah blah. There. blog for the day done.

Brief Blog on Smedias

Yesterday was the Student Media Awards and and DCU did extremely well with 5 wins from 9 categories that we were nominated for. In these 9 categories, DCU was represented by 15 nominees so for a single college, that is a huge achievement and I’m proud to be a student there. A special congrats to Boomsticks very own Carly Mathews who, even though she didn’t win, was still one of the final 5 nominees and has done Boomstick proud :). The rest of the night was great fun with us getting fairly drunk in the process so good times all round!

Anyway, I’ve just come back from watching Source Code by Duncan Jones and will write a blog about that later but for now I’m just gonna say a special good luck to all those who ran in the DCU SU elections. was amazed at the turn out at the polling stations this year compared to last year and hopefully this time tomorrow, we will know the final tally. Also, good luck to everyone in the Hybrids next week. Fingers crossed for all of you, except of course, for those who are in the same categories as me, those trophies are mine!!!

OK Bai!! ttyl
